Major upgrade of SL-AV20 model

  • algorithmic improvement in dynamics allows to increase the time step  by a factor of 1.5 and reduce errors. Further increase in time step value is planned
  •  improved efficiency in OpenMP, partial use of single precision (Tolstykh et al, J of Phys. Conf series 2021) results in further 20% acceleration
December 2020
A multi-scale version of 3D-Var (with three scales of the analysis increment field)
is now operational.
October 2020
A recalibration scheme for observations from the microwave radiometer  MTVZA-GY on board the Russian satellite Meteor-M N2-2 works now in real time. The impact of these observations in the data assimilation system of the Hydrometcenter of Russia has been shown to be about half the impact of similar AMSU-A/MHS observations.

January 2019
A new computer system Cray XC40, Xeon E5-2697v4 18C 2.3GHz, Aries interconnect is now in operation.

December 2018
Observations from the Russian hyper-spectral infrared radiometer IKFS-2
were tested in the HMC global data assimilation system.
First results with a limited number of temperature sensitive frequency channels
showed a positive impact in the Southern hemisphere.
Work is underway on their operational assimilation.

September 2018
A new AMDAR wind and temperature super-obbing scheme was successfully tested.
The super-obbing was made consistent with the resolution of analysis increments.
